It’s official: “Glee” will end after its sixth season.

The show’s creator Ryan Murphy discussed the series’ conclusion at an event honoring FX Networks on Wednesday, and revealed that Cory Monteith’s death has altered the planned endgame.

He is quoted as telling reporters, “The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around [Lea Michele’s character] Rachel and [Monteith’s character] Finn’s story. I always knew that. I always knew how it would end.”

“I knew what the last shot was, [Finn] was in it. I knew what the last line was — she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens, you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring it out.”

Murphy said he has a “good idea” of how the show will end now, and that it’s “kind of in [Monteith’s] honor, which I love.”

Ryan Murphy: Cory Monteith’s Glee Character Will NOT Die From Overdose

Truth rating: 10

Ryan Murphy has revealed new details about the upcoming “Glee” tribute episode in honor of late star Cory Monteith.

Although it was previously hinted that the special episode would tie in to the actor’s real-life drug overdose, Murphy now says he’s going in a different direction.

“At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose — that was something we had considered. But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that,” he shares in a new interview with Deadline.

Murphy continues, “Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, ‘This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.’”

The producer acknowledges ”that might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way.”

The show resumed production earlier this month — later than scheduled due to Monteith’s sudden passing in July — and “there’s been tears on set,” says Murphy.

“It’s been hard for a lot of people. But the really difficult thing is coming. We start shooting the memorial episode this week,” he reveals, adding, “But I think it turned out to be a lovely tribute, and it’s a very heartfelt look at how young people grieve.”

Murphy concludes, “We loved Cory and we loved Finn and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them. We’re trying to craft an episode that’s not just about us grieving but about a lot of the young fans grieving.”

Lea Michele is easing back into work and life in the wake of boyfriend Cory Monteith’s death last month.

Earlier this week, the actress posted a picture from the “Glee” set and wrote, “Feels so good to be home.”

On Friday, “Glee” boss Ryan Murphy had the grieving star over to his home for dinner.

“Beautiful dinner tonight at @MrRPMurphy‘s house… I ❤ him so much..” tweeted Michele, along with a photo of her place at the table (see below).

Murphy has said that Michele was consulted on all decisions involving how to proceed with “Glee” following Monteith’s death.

The show will premiere its fifth season in September.
