Steve Austin Missed Monday Night Raw’s 1,000th Episode to Film Grown Ups 2?

(Bleacher Report)

Wrestling fans surely noticed that WWE megastar Stone Cold Steve Austin was not at the 1,000th episode of “Monday Night Raw.”

And for Bleacher Report, that was “unacceptable.”

The site, picking up an unsubstantiated rumor that Austin bailed on the event to film Grown Ups 2, slammed the wrestling legend, writing, “Talk about not having your priorities straight.”

“The fans of the WWE and the organization itself were responsible for providing the launching pad that propelled Austin to worldwide fame. Instead of carrying on his identity as a crowd-pleasing performer, he decided that it was more important to spend some time with Adam Sandler,” claims Bleacher Report.

“Grown Ups, the original, wasn’t even that good,” adds the blog in its screed, noting, “If the NBA gathered their greatest players in one place, Michael Jordan would not be filming Space Jam 2” and “Dan Marino would not skip out on a similar gathering to join Jim Carrey on the set of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”

The site concludes, “Whether it was because Austin truly felt a stronger allegiance to Sandler and the rest of the Grown Ups 2 cast, or because the WWE did not extend the monetary compensation for his participation in the show, the fans missed out on a man who should have been at the 1,000th episode of RAW.”

Yes, the fans missed out on a man who would have loved to have been there, but is recuperating from knee surgery.

After more negative — and WRONG – stories began to pop up, Austin took to his own blog to clear the air.

He wrote, “The reason I did not attend RAW 1,000 was because I underwent a major knee surgery on my left knee on July 2, 2012… I am currently three weeks post op,” and “am still on crutches.”

“To the fans that were hoping to see SCSA, I’m sorry I missed the show,” he said, adding, “I would have loved to be there under different circumstances.”

Gossip Cop hopes Austin has a speedy recovery — and that Bleacher Report gets better at its “unacceptable” fact-checking.
