A Good Day to Die Hard Wins Holiday Weekend Box Office

A Good Day to Die Hard will win the four-day holiday weekend box office.

Bruce Willis’ fifth outing as indestructible cop John McClane will rake in $31 million.

That’s enough to beat the Jason BatemanMelissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief, which will take second with $27.7 million.

Coming in third is the Julianne HoughJosh Duhamel romance Safe Haven with $25.4 million.

The animated Escape From Planet Earth and the zombie love story Warm Bodies have nabbed fourth and fifth places with $21 million and $10 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 are new release Beautiful Creatures ($9 million), Side Effects ($7.8 million), Silver Linings Playbook ($7.5 million), Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters ($4 million) and Zero Dark Thirty ($3.7 million).

Identity Thief Steals Big Box Office Win

Identity Thief is set to win the weekend box office, with the Jason BatemanMelissa McCarthy comedy on pace for an estimated $34 million windfall, even as a blizzard batters the East Coast.

Zombie romance Warm Bodies ($9 million) should finish in second place, just ahead of the new thriller Side Effects, starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law and Channing Tatum ($8 million).

Oscar contender Silver Linings Playbook is expected to be in the #4 slot with about $6 million.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is set to place fifth at $4.8 million, beating Jessica Chastain’s one-two punch of Mama ($4 million) and Zero Dark Thirty ($3.5 million).

Django Unchained and Argo will likely battle for #8 — both movies are on track for approximately $2 million.

The Sylvester Stallone action flick Bullet To The Head should round out the chart with a $1.5 million haul.
