BOX OFFICE

(Paramount)

Pain & Gain, the true life bodybuilder crime spree movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, is expected to win the weekend box office.

Directed by Michael Bay, the action-comedy is projected to earn $19 million, according to early estimates.

That would be enough to edge out the Tom Cruise sci-fi epic Oblivion, which is tracking toward $17 million.

The Jackie Robinson biopic 42 should finish in third place with about $10 million.

Meanwhile, ensemble romantic comedy The Big Wedding should open in the #4 spot with $8 million or so.

Animated family film The Croods is expected to earn $6 million, which would put it in fifth place.

Five holdovers — Scary Movie 5, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Place Beyond the Pines, Jurassic Park 3D, and Olympus Has Fallen — are all clustered in the bottom half of the Top 10, in the $2.5-3.5 million range.
