“Modern Family” isn’t the only hit comedy series with a spinoff in the works.

The producers behind “How I Met Your Mother” are developing a follow-up series called “How I Met Your Father,” Gossip Cop confirms.

The proposed show would follow the same premise as the original, but from a female perspective, showcasing one woman’s journey to finding her future husband and the assorted relationships among her close group of friends.

We’re told talks are “very preliminary,” and there are “ongoing discussions” as to whether the idea will turn into more than just a pitch.

If it moves forward, there would be an entirely new cast of characters unrelated to the original gang.

To link the two series, the newbies could be introduced on the “HIMYM” finale, slated for this spring, and may frequent the same hangout, MacLaren’s Pub.

The potential spinoff was first reported by Deadline.

“How I Met Your Mother” Reportedly To Return For 9th Season

It looks like “How I Met Your Mother” will likely return for Season 9 after all.

The hit sitcom’s future has been in doubt amid contract negotiations, with Jason Segel reportedly not expected to sign for another year and the show’s other stars and producers up in the air as well.

But multiple outlets report that discussions have led the cast, creative team and CBS to the brink of a deal to return for the 2013-14 TV season.

While it has not been finalized, a ninth “How I Met Your Mother” year — with the central quintet of characters intact — is reportedly on track after last-minute negotiations.

CBS will not officially announce its fall schedule until May, but the unique mythology behind the “How I Met Your Mother” story meant the network and producers wanted to know as early as possible whether to prepare for a series finale this spring.

It now seems like Segel, Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders will return for one more year.

Maybe we’ll even find out who the “mother” is.
