Ryan O’Neal has prostate cancer.
The actor made the admission in a statement furnished to Gossip Cop on Friday night, revealing he was recently diagnosed with the illness, which is in stage 4.
“Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate that it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery,” O’Neal says.
He adds, “I am deeply grateful for the support of my friends and family during this time, and I urge everyone to get regular check-ups, as early detection is the best defense against this horrible disease that has afflicted so many.”
The “Love Story” star, whose longtime partner Farrah Fawcett died of anal cancer in 2009, previously battled leukemia in the late 1990s.
People first reported O’Neal’s diagnosis.
