Chris Daughtry says he’s “hurt” by a lawsuit three former bandmates have filed against the rocker and onetime “American Idol” finalist.
Ryan Andrews, Scott Crawford and Mark Perry — who played with Daughtry in the group Absent Element — claim the singer defrauded them out of royalties from four songs to which they allegedly contributed music and lyrics.
The lawsuit, filed this week in North Carolina, accuses Daughtry of “constructive fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices, and other deceptive and wrongful conduct.”
In response, Daughtry posted a statement to his official site.
He wrote, “I am very hurt by these false accusations. The songs listed in this lawsuit were written solely by me and no one else and at this time, I have no further comment.”
Daughtry rose to stardom and commercial radio success after his fourth-place finish on “American Idol” in 2006.
