As celebrities and fans alike grapple with the news of Whitney Houston’s death, many are wondering if and how Sunday’s Grammy Awards will pay tribute to the iconic star.
Houston, a six-time Grammy winner, “was one of the world’s greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades,” Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow said in a statement on Saturday night.
He added, “Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs. A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice.”
Houston was expected to attend Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammys soiree in Los Angeles just hours after she was found dead at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Davis, who was the first to discover Houston’s talents, had selected her to perform at the bash, which will reportedly still be held.
While event organizers for the Grammys have not yet officially announced any specific plans to honor the late singer, early speculation has named Jennifer Hudson as a possible late addition to the telecast.
Again, nothing is confirmed.
