As Gossip Cop reported, the Backstreet Boys member didn’t attend his younger sibling’s funeral, saying at the time, “I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic.”

Now he revealed to Dr. Phil exactly what happened.

“I actually got the phone call from my father that she had passed. Immediately the conversation turned into not about her death and not about the actual passing and what had occurred, [but] more about themselves,” he explained.

The singer continued, “And then I started to get blamed by the rest of the family — I have a large family and they all went there — and they were blaming me for the death.”

Interestingly, Carter admitted he holds himself partially responsible.

Nick Carter reportedly blames ex-girlfriend Paris Hilton for much of his past drug use in a new memoir.

“Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It” is set to debut this week, and the book delves into Carter’s struggles with substance and alcohol abuse, much of which occurred during his 2003-2004 relationship with Hilton.

The Backstreet Boys singer is quoted as saying that Hilton “fed my worst impulses as far as partying,” which included heavy use of ecstasy, cocaine, and vodka.

He believes that the amount of ecstasy he did in particular contributed to his longterm battle with depression.

Carter has been sober for several years and is now engaged to Lauren Kitt.
