Melissa Rivers: Remembering Joan  – ARTICLE

Melissa Rivers is commemorating one of her most painful memories with some of her most cherished – and hilarious.

The TV personality's legendary mother, comic Joan Rivers, passed away after complications from throat surgery on Sept. 4, 2014, and Melissa noted the one-year anniversary with a touching message via Joan's Twitter page on Friday.

The "Fashion Police" co-host told followers that this has been "the year of firsts" since Joan's passing.

"First holidays, first birthdays, first everything without mom, without grandma," she wrote. "While it's been difficult, I've been amazed by the outpouring of love and overwhelming kindness we've received from family, friends and people whose lives were touched by the woman they knew as Joan – a woman we all miss so very much."

Melissa is just one of many paying tribute to the late icon's lasting legacy. On Thursday, "Fashion Police" aired a special episode titled "Celebrating Joan," and recalled some of the star's most memorable celebrity encounters on the series.

Featuring appearances from Nicki Minaj, Kris Jenner, Sarah Silverman, Big Sean, Martha Stewart and others, the highlight reel reminded viewers what made Joan's humor so unforgettable.

"Not only did I never know what was going to come out of my mother's mouth, neither did the stars who were brave enough to sit in the hot seat," Melissa said.
