Jesse Helt, the young homeless man who was Miley Cyrus date at the MTV Video Music Awards and accepted her Video of the Year trophyturned himself into the police in Dallas, Oregon on Thursday night, Gossip Cop confirms.

The 22-year-old, who had a three-year-old warrant out for his arrest after violating probation, was booked at the Polk County Jail before posting $2,500 bail.

According to law enforcement officials, Helt had previously pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing and criminal mischief after breaking into the Oregon home of a man who had allegedly been selling bad marijuana.

Helt then subsequently — and repeatedly — violated his probation, failing to take drug tests or report to his probation officer, having moved to Los Angeles, where he lived on the streets as he tried to make it as a model.

His plight and the time he time spent in shelters across Los Angeles helped inspire Cyrus’ support of My Friend’s Place, a center for homeless youths.

Helt is slated to appear before a judge in two weeks.

Gossip Cop is told Cyrus is paying his legal fees.
