Rose McIver to Star in Rob Thomas’ ‘iZombie’

Rose McIver is having a stellar pilot season.

The actress, who recently boarded Lifetime's Flowers in the Attic sequel, has booked the lead role in one of The CW's buzziest pilots: Rob Thomas' iZombie.

The supernatural crime procedural, based on the DC Comics title of the same name, centers on Liv (McIver), a medical student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the Coroner's Office in order to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat so that she can maintain her humanity. However, with every brain she eats, she inherits the corpse's memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.

The New Zealand-born actress last month was tapped to take over the lead role in Lifetime's Flowers in the Attic sequel Petals on the Wind. She replaces Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka, who played a younger version of the character in the first TV movie. McIver's credits include Once Upon a Time, Masters of Sex and features the Lovely Bones and Brightest Star. She's repped by WME, Australia's Sue Barnett, New Zealand's Johnson and Laird Management and Principato-Young.

Veronica Mars creator Thomas and Diane Ruggiero will pen the script and exec produce the drama alongside Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge. Thomas will direct the pilot, which hails from Rob Thomas Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The pilot, which will film in Vancouver, is based on characters created by Chris Robertson and Michael Allred and published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint.

McIver joins a cast that also includes One Tree Hill's Robert Buckley as Liv's love interest, Malcolm Goodwin, Alexandra Krosney and David Anders.
