Jamie Dornan: My Friend Won’t Watch Fifty Shades, Called Christian Grey “Disgusting”

Jamie Dornan opens up about the challenge of going from modeling to movies, his disdain for the paparazzi, and the role he worked his “d*ck off for” in a new interview with London’s Evening Standard.

Despite a career largely filled with modeling gigs for Calvin Klein, GQ, and other brands, the Fifty Shades of Grey star reveals, “I’ve never felt massively satisfied from standing there while someone takes my photograph. It’s never given me a thrill.”

“[But] it would take a very foolish man to turn down the stuff that was offered to me. You’re in your twenties, and people are going to give you a silly amount of money to lean against a wall with your head down,” says Dornan, adding, “F*ck me, you’ve got to do it.”

The actor says he went on to fail “f*cking hundreds” of auditions, “some of them totally humiliating experiences.”

“People attach too much to the idea of being a model, that you can only be a certain way to have done it. You will always be dealing with it. You’re an actor who used to be a model who never trained; there are not many directors queuing up,” he explains.

The turning point came last year, when Dornan was cast as a serial killer on the BBC thriller “The Fall,” a coup that left him “shocked and bewildered, and above all else very frightened.”

He recalls, “I was hungry to prove it was within my capabilities, but f*cking over the moon.”

“They took a risk. I wasn’t who people were thinking of for that part. Right from the start the writer, Allan Cubitt, had this underlying belief that I was the guy, and I am massively thankful to him for that,” says Dornan.

Adds the star, “But I feel like I f*cking earned it. I worked my d*ck off for that role.”

No doubt his anatomy also got a workout thanks to that other major role, Christian Grey in Fifty Shades.

While Dornan shares no details about the erotic film in the interview, he amusingly reveals a pal’s less-than-enthusiastic reaction.

He tells the British paper, “A friend of mine said, ’I heard about Fifty Shades. Congratulations on the role. That’s going to be disgusting. I won’t watch it.’”

Perhaps the friend would be more willing to watch if Dornan was in something a little less steamy, and the movie star says he’d be game for some romantic comedies.

“Definitely, 100 percent if it was well crafted, which loads of them aren’t,” he says. “I like the idea of comedy. Being a leading man can come in many different forms.”

These days, Dornan is also a leading paparazzi target, a disturbing situation he first experienced when he dated Keira Knightley a decade ago.

“It was a strange environment to find yourself in, being hounded and followed. It’s really hideous,” he complains. “F*cking hell, [the paparazzi] are cretins. I couldn’t have less respect for those guys.”

The Irish actor goes on, “There are so many ways to make a living that don’t involve hiding in bushes opposite houses of 18-year-old girls with a camera in your hand. That’s not making a living, that’s making a choice to be a perverted f*ckhead.”

“That scrutiny when you’re older will be easier to take. And I don’t think I’m ever going to be as famous as [Knightley],” predicts Dornan.

Millions of Fifty Shades fans may disagree.
