Marvel’s “Captain America 3” will face off against the sophomore “Superman” film on May 6, 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and Access Hollywood’s Liz Hernandez got reaction to the report on Thursday night.
When asked about it at the “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” premiere in Hollywood, franchise star Chris Evans seemed to be surprised by the news.
“Really? I didn’t even know that,” he told Liz.

“Well, that’s a shame,” he added.
Liz asked Chris’ co-star, Sebastian Stan, who he thinks would win that box office battle, and the actor, who plays Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in the newest “Captain America” film, hit one for the home team.

“All you really have to do to know the answer to that question is just look at the track record of Marvel vs. DC… ‘Green Lantern,’” he said.
“I’m biased,” Sebastian continued. “I don’t know. I’m on this side.”
According to Box Office Mojo, 2011’s “Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds, garnered $116 million at the box office domestically and $103 million in foreign box office takings, while it took $200 million to make. Meanwhile, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” brought in $176 million domestically, and $193 million outside the U.S., according to the site. The production budget for that film was $140 million.
When Liz asked Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) about the reported box office matchup, he said, “you know, the bar’s going higher and higher and hopefully these guys can get up there on that bar. DC’s having some issues. DC’s having a little trouble with Marvel.”
Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/The Falcon, had his own unique response.
On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter quoted sources as having told the publication that the third installment of the Marvel film will face off against the previously announced Superman/Batman film. The publication did note that post-production and shooting schedules could lead to a change.
