Brush Fire Burning Near Six Flags Magic Mountain

The fire, which burned 23 acres in less than an hour, is now heading toward Interstate 5.

Los Angeles county fire fighters were called to the scene of a small brush fire, about two acres, burning in the hills behind Six Flags Magic Mountain at 11:24 am — less than an hour later, the fire has consumed more than 25 acres.

"It became a three alarm fire very quickly—it went form 2 acres to 25 pretty fast," said Inspector Keith Mora with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He added that there are 228 firefighters on the scene at the moment.

The fire is now moving away from the park, which opened for daily operation on May 15, about five to ten miles per hours, according to Mora, in the direction of the 5 freeway.

Inspector Mora could not give an estimate of how long it would take to contain the fire, but he said, "We're going to attack the flames on ground and also from above."

Two helicopters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, one from the city of Los Angeles' fire department fighting the fire at the moment Mora said, and there are orders for four fixed-wing aircrafts as well.

Representatives from Six Flags were not available to comment, but Magic Mountain appears open while the fire continues to burn, and park visitors have been chronicling the experience on Instagram.
