Alec Baldwin to Host Nat Geo Series

Alec Baldwin will host a new weekly programing block for National Geographic channel. Night of Exploration will have Baldwin narrating documentaries that showcase global hotspots and the mavericks who explored them.

The series begins June 14 at 8 p.m. with Crossing the Ice, which follows two Australian adventurers as they attempt to become the first to tackle the perilous journey from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back, completely unassisted. The series will air each Friday throughout the summer.

Baldwin, of course, is no stranger to nature doc voice-over work. He narrated the Discovery-BBC Nature series Frozen Planet in 2011 as well as Nat Geo’s 2010 multi-part series Great Migrations.

Night of Exploration kicks of Nat Geo’s summer slate, which includes five new original series. Battleground Afghanistan, which follows U.S. Marines in Afghanistan, and Eyewitness War, about the men and women of the DEA and other law enforcement agencies, bow July 1 at 9 and 10 p.m., respectively. Inside Secret America, which premieres July 10 at 10 p.m., is an investigative hour co-hosted by journalists Mariana van Zeller and Darren Foster. Inside the American Mob bows July 28 and 9 p.m. And The Castle features American pepper Brent Bruns building a bunker/castle deep in the South Carolina woods and bows in August.
