Argo Emerges Above Cloud Atlas, Wins Crowded Weekend Box Office

BOX OFFICE

(Warner Bros.)

Argo is expected to top a crowded box office weakened by Hurricane Sandy’s threatening ascent up the East Coast, according to early estimates.

Ben Affleck’s true story CIA thriller is currently tracking toward $12 million, which would be enough for the #1 spot over the Tom Hanks-Halle Berry new release Cloud Atlas ($9.5 million).

Meanwhile, two horror flicks — Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and Paranormal Activity 4 — are competing against the animated Hotel Transylvania and Liam Neeson’s mad dad sequel Taken 2 for third place.

All four films are projected to take in approximately $9 million in initial forecasts.

Here Comes The Boom ($5.5 million) should follow at #7, with Sinister ($5 million) and Alex Cross ($5 million) not far behind.

The Halloween comedy Fun Size should round out the Top 10 with approximately $4 million.
