VIDEOMichael Phelps took on U.S. teammate Ryan Lochte and the rest of the field in the 200-meter individual medley on Thursday, attempting to win the event for the third consecutive Olympics.
If he prevailed, it would mean extending his all-time records to 16 overall golds and 20 total medals.

Phelps did it!
With a time of 1 minute, 54.27 seconds, Phelps finished ahead of Lochte (who took silver) and bronze-winning Laszlo Cseh of Hungary.
Phelps has two events left at these London Games, having already won two golds and two silvers after a disappointing start.
