Jennifer Hudson’s former brother-in-law, William Balfour, was given three consecutive life sentences in prison on Tuesday for an October 2008 killing spree that left the singer’s mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew dead.
Balfour received three natural life sentences plus an additional 120 years behind bars.
Hudson was present in the courtroom for the sentencing.
After denying Balfour’s request for a new trial, Judge Charles Burns handed down the punishment and reportedly told Balfour, “Your soul is as barren as dark space.”
In May, a jury found Balfour guilty on three counts of first-degree murder for fatally shooting Hudson’s mom Darnell Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King.
He was also convicted of home invasion and residential burglary.
