LISTENSelena Gomez has been named in a $1 million lawsuit that claims her 2010 hit “A Year Without Rain” features a chorus that’s “virtually identical” to the band Luce’s 2005 track “Buy A Dog.”
The plaintiffs are four songwriters — Tom Luce, Brian Kroll, Matt Blackett and Lawrence Riggs — who allege that Gomez and her band (The Scene) lifted the Luce song’s chorus for “A Year Without Rain,” which became the title track of Gomez’s second studio album.

The credited co-writers behind Gomez’s hit, Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad, have also been named co-defendants.
According to Courthouse News Service, Luce says that “Buy A Dog” had enormous airplay on Sirius/XM radio and other outlets in 2005, and that “the melodies in the chorus of both songs are virtually identical.”
The plaintiffs declare that Gomez and her co-defendants are infringing on their copyright.
