Sixteen years after her role in The Preacher's Wife, Whitney Houston will posthumously make her big screen comeback with the summer release of Sparkle.
Wrapping production on the project just prior to her shocking February 11 death, Houston will appear as Emma, a single mom whose daughter (Jordin Sparks) is eager to become part of a hot new Motown group.

Costarring Derek Luke and Tika Sumpter, the film -- loosely based on the real-life story of The Supremes -- is a remake of the 1976 movie of the same name.
On Monday, TODAY's Matt Lauer premiered an exclusive preview of the film, set for an August 17 release.

"Keep dancing like that and you'll bring home some kids you can't feed," Houston jokes in one scene.
Sumpter, who plays Dolores, remembered Houston and the fun times they shared on set. "I remember while we were waiting for the set to be fixed and Whitney, Jordin and all of us were doing the Dougie together!" Gossip Girl's Sumpter told Us Weekly. "Whitney was pretty funny."
