A report surfaced Friday claiming The Hunger Games director Gary Ross has opted not to direct the blockbuster’s sequel, Catching Fire.
Ross, who received raves for the record-breaking first installment in the franchise, wants to focus on a different project, according to IndieWire.
Gossip Cop has reached out to reps for Ross and Lionsgate for confirmation, but have yet to hear back.
If true, Ross wouldn’t be the first director to bail on a major movie franchise.
Chris Columbus said goodbye to the Harry Potter series after the second flick, and the Twilight Saga series had different helmers for the first four films.
Catching Fire, which will bring back Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, is slated to hit theaters in November 2013.
Gossip Cop will update when more details emerge.
