“Dancing with the Stars” had another surprising elimination on Tuesday – and the show’s very first “Dance Duel.”
As Gossip Cop previously reported, “DWTS” has instituted a new rule in which the two couples in jeopardy of elimination (based on judges’ scores and viewers’ votes) have to participate in a dance-off, after which the judges decide who to send home.

The first pairs forced back onto the ballroom floor for a shot at redemption were Gavin DeGraw & Karina Smirnoff and Jaleel White & Kim Johnson.
After the simultaneous – and intense – dances, the judges unanimously decided White & Johnson deserved to stay in the competition.

That meant DeGraw & Smirnoff, who won last season with J.R. Martinez, were forced to go home.
