Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested for burglary and drug possession on Friday.
Leaf was booked on those felony charges (plus a misdemeanor theft charge) in his hometown of Great Falls, Montana, having been taken into custody at his local probation and parole office.
He was freed on $76,000 bond.
“I’ve made some mistakes, and have no excuses,” Leaf said in a statement. “I am using the tools I’ve learned to move forward rather than backwards, and will be open to talking about the details in the days to come.”
Leaf continued, “I am confident that there will be further understanding when the facts are revealed, and feel very blessed for all of the support, especially from my friends and family.”
He’s scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday.
Leaf pleaded guilty to felony drug charges in Texas in 2010, leading to a 10-year probation arrangement.
An extremely successful Washington State quarterback, Leaf was picked #2 in the 1998 NFL Draft – immediately behind Peyton Manning.
While Manning flourished, Leaf became one of the most infamous busts in league history.
