WARNING: The below video contains graphic content and may be disturbing to some viewers. The Pentagon launched an investigation Wednesday after being alerted to a video posted on YouTube that shows four active duty combat Marines urinating on the corpses of three dead Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan. Although the Marines in the video have yet to be identified, a military source tells NBC News “it should be pretty easy” to do so.
NBC News also reports that military officials confirmed the men in the video were part of a sniper team out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., that served in Afghanistan for several months in early 2011.
In a statement, a U.S. Marine Corps official was quick to distance the organization from the video: "The actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps."
