Family Spokesperson: Report of Joe Paterno’s Death NOT True

(GettyImages.com)

UPDATE: CBS Sports reported late Saturday that Joe Paterno had died at 85.

Family spokesperson Dan McGinn has since debunked the story, as has Paterno’s son Jay on Twitter.

The only official responses to the report, at this time, are that it’s “not true” and “false.”

Again: There is NO official news at the moment.

CBS Sports changed its story, but a number of outlets that picked up the rumor and ran with it have not.

The legendary former Penn State football coach, whose 46-year tenure with the school ended last November in disgrace following the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer.

He’s experienced complications from cancer treatment in the past week.

Paterno won a record 409 games while leading the Nittany Lions, but was forced out when school officials determined he had failed to take appropriate action after hearing allegations that former defensive coordinator Sandusky had sexually abused children.
